Children reading books together

Semonemo Book Club

Semonemo Book Club is a community where students who love books come together to share ideas and grow together. Through a variety of discussions, students discover their own interests and build the vocabulary and sentence skills they need to write well. Along the way, they learn to understand and respect the lives of people from different backgrounds and experiences, and develop a broader view of the world.

The program runs as a 12-week course filled with different activities. Students hold in-depth conversations through discussion and prepare PowerPoint presentations to express their ideas creatively. They also strengthen their writing through essays and creative writing, and grow their vocabulary through word study.

Through these activities, Semonemo Book Club offers students many ways to learn and grow, and a positive reading experience. Come join us at Semonemo Book Club — a place to see the world more widely through books and develop your own original ideas!

What makes it special

  • Fun, engaging reading activities

Students explore the events the characters go through and share opinions from the main character's point of view in discussion.

  • The building blocks of reading

Students learn the key reading elements for their elementary grade level (character, setting, plot, climax, and more).

  • Debate

Students talk freely using prepared discussion questions.

They listen to different opinions and practice expressing their own ideas logically.

  • Creative projects and presentations

After finishing each book, every student makes and presents a PPT!

Students learn to organize what they read in their own way and present it — building public-speaking skills, too!

  • Book club worksheets

Homework helps students grow their writing and expression!

Students practice putting the thoughts that come up while reading into writing.

  • Books on a wide range of topics

Science, social studies, fiction, nonfiction, biography, mystery, and more — a wide range of books for deeper conversations.

How classes work

Student page
After enrolling, you'll get a link to your child's student page. Join class, find class materials, and watch past class recordings — all in one place. Bookmark it on your child's device.
Homework
Each class's teacher shares homework and feedback.
Absences and make-ups
Missed classes still count toward your enrolled classes. For group classes, your child can catch up with the recording. If something comes up, please let the teacher know in advance — the teacher may not count the class or may schedule a make-up.
