Terms of Service
Effective date: October 22, 2026
1. Who we are and how these terms apply
These terms govern the Semonemo website and online educational services provided by Lunchbox Education LLC, a California limited liability company ("Semonemo," "we," or "us"). "You" means the parent or legal guardian who buys or manages services for a student.
Our services include small-group classes, 1:1 classes, paid consultations, consulting, and the Literacy subscription. The Literacy Subscription Terms govern subscription billing, cancellation, and refunds and prevail over these terms on those subjects. Other products, such as camps and consulting, may have their own terms shown before purchase. Classes at in-person Semonemo Centers also follow that center's policies. Nothing in these terms limits consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
2. Parent accounts and student access
- Only parents or legal guardians aged 18 or older may create an account. Parents sign in with a one-time code sent to their email.
- Students do not have their own accounts. They open their student page with a link (a three-word code) we give to parents.
- Keep sign-in codes and student links private, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has used them. Keep your and your child's information accurate.
3. Enrollment, payment, and credits
- You enroll through an enrollment link received after a level test and consultation. The enrollment page shows the class, number of classes, and total price. The price at enrollment applies for that enrollment.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Each enrollment is a set number of classes (credits). One credit is used for each class held and for each absence that counts under Section 4. Class credits do not expire.
- A class enrollment is a one-time payment and does not renew automatically. To continue, you pay again through a renewal link. The Literacy subscription renews automatically under its own terms.
- Account credit (from consultation fees, refunds issued as credit, etc.) can be used by anyone in your family and does not expire.
4. Attendance, absences, and interruptions
- For group classes, an absence normally uses a credit because the class is still held. Please tell the teacher before class. The teacher may, case by case, not count the class or offer a make-up; this is not guaranteed. Enrolled students can usually catch up with the class recording.
- For 1:1 classes, tell the teacher at least 24 hours before the scheduled start. The teacher will either not count the class or schedule a make-up. With less than 24 hours' notice, the class is counted and no make-up is guaranteed. Late arrival does not extend the class.
- If a class can't be held because of the teacher (internet, device, or material problems, or not showing up without notice), our systems, or an outside platform outage, it does not use a credit. We may offer a make-up instead. A student's own connection problems normally follow the absence rules above.
5. Cancellations and refunds
This section applies to group and 1:1 classes.
- Before the first class: we refund 95% of the amount actually paid. The 5% covers payment processing and administrative costs.
- After the first class has started: unused classes are returned as account credit at the per-class price you paid. For example, if you paid $420 for 8 classes ($52.50 per class) and stop after 3 classes, we return 5 × $52.50 = $262.50 as account credit.
- When a cash refund is required: if a cash refund is required instead of credit (for example, by applicable law, or in the cases described in Sections 6, 7, and 8), we refund the unused classes at the per-class price you paid, minus 5% of that amount, to the original payment method.
- Any part of a payment made with account credit is always returned as account credit.
- Send cancellation and refund requests to team@semonemo.us or our KakaoTalk Channel (@semonemo.us). A request takes effect when we receive it. We start an approved refund within 5 business days; your card issuer may take longer to show it.
- Paid consultations, consulting, camps, and other separately sold products follow the refund terms shown before purchase.
6. Class recordings
- Zoom and Google Meet classes are recorded so absent students can catch up and for class quality review. Zoom may also create a text transcript, which only staff use for quality review.
- Students on a class's roster, and their parents, can watch that class's recording for a limited time through the student page. Recordings are never made public. Recordings may show other students in the class.
- Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how long we keep it, and your rights.
- If you don't want your child to be recorded, contact us before enrollment or at any time. We will explain the options available. If we can't provide the class without recording, we will refund the unused classes under Section 5 (cash refund).
- Please don't record classes yourself or share recordings, links, or screenshots that show other participants.
7. Materials, student work, and conduct
- Class materials (slides, PDFs, videos, worksheets) belong to Semonemo or their original authors. They may be used only for the enrolled student's personal learning and may not be copied, distributed, sold, or shared. Downloaded PDFs carry the student's name as a watermark.
- Students keep the rights to their own work. We use submissions only to give feedback and run the service. Public or promotional use of a student's work requires the parent's separate permission.
- Treat other students and teachers with respect; no harassment, disruption, or sharing other people's personal information.
- For serious safety concerns we may suspend access immediately; otherwise we will first explain the concern. If we end an enrollment, the unused classes are refunded under Section 5 (cash refund).
8. Changes to the services
We may adjust teachers, schedules, or curricula when needed and will tell you in advance where we can. If a change substantially affects what you bought and you don't accept the alternative we offer, you may cancel the affected unused classes for a refund under Section 5 (cash refund). If a class can't be held for reasons beyond our control, it is not counted or a make-up is scheduled.
9. Results and limitation of liability
We do our best to provide high-quality classes, but we do not guarantee particular grades, test results, or admissions.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for an enrollment or a subscription billing period is limited to the amount you paid for it. This does not reduce refunds owed under these terms and does not apply to fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot legally be limited.
10. Governing law, changes, and language
- These terms are governed by California law, without removing mandatory consumer protections of the place where you live. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it; this does not stop you from using any legal right.
- We will post changes on the website and email you at least 7 days before they take effect (30 days for changes unfavorable to you). Changes do not reduce rights attached to purchases already made.
- These terms are available in Korean and English. If they differ, the English version controls to the extent permitted by law.
